Jeff Wold founded Wold Consulting Services, Inc. in 2003 in order to formalize the offerings of digital forensics and electronic evidence analysis to the legal industry. Mr. Wold has over 30 years of experience in information technology, cyber security, and forensics. He has held multiple certifications from SANS, Magnet Forensics, Access Data, Microsoft, Novell, Cisco, Sun, and others and is a member of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA), ISACA, and INFRAGARD. 



Mr. Wold has been serving the legal industry in the area of computer forensics and electronic evidence analysis since February 2002. Mr. Wold has extensive training in computer forensics, cell phone and PDA forensics, and information assurance.  Certifications are held from ISC2, SANS, ISACA, and the National Security Agency.



Mr. Wold has been certified as an expert witness in state (Minnesota, Illinois, Ohio) and Federal courts.



Wold Consulting Services, Inc. has been engaged in a wide variety of cases including white collar crime, criminal sexual misconduct, employee law, and many other criminal matters. Working primarily through referrals, Wold Consulting Services, Inc. has provided services to some of the most prominent criminal defense attorneys in the Twin Cities, and is used by the Federal Defenders Office and most of Minnesota’s district public defender’s offices.

About

Jeff Wold is the sole proprietor of Wold Consulting Services, Inc. He has been in the business of computers, electronics, information security, and digital forensics since 1983.

Mr. Wold graduated magna cum laude from Capella University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Information Technology.

Mr. Wold has served the Twin Cities area in Information Technology and Cyber Security Services as a staff and independent consultant since 1991, and in Texas since 2015. He is licensed by the State of Texas as a Private Investigator. He currently holds certifications for ISC2 (CISSP), ISACA (CISM), SANS (GCFE) and the National Security Agency (IAM, IEM). He holds a Top Secret Clearance with a Special Background Investigation.

Mr. Wold is passionate about computer and mobile device forensics and is constantly learning and expanding his knowledge of the field. He is well known and respected among local and Federal law enforcement agencies and has working relationships with the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Minneapolis Police Department and many others.




Mr. Wold lives in Horseshoe Bay, TX and Spooner, Wisconsin with his wife, two cats, and dog. In his spare time, he enjoys the lake, playing guitar, motorcycles, shooting sports, and most of all - his family.

Cases

Wold Consulting Services has seen success in the following recent engagements:

Mr. Wold assisted a St Paul law firm in a complicated civil case involving several family members and a prominent local company. Multiple mobile phones and computer systems were analyzed as well as a mountain of subpoenaed data including call logs from multiple mobile vendors, email/Internet logs, and several building access logs. Mr. Wold worked with the firm to compile and understand the data, resulting in a favorable settlement for the client.

Mr. Wold was engaged by a St Paul attorney representing the defendant of an employee theft claim. By conducting a forensic examination of the computer, interviewing the defendant and the individual that supported the computers for the company, as well as various software vendors, Mr. Wold testified in state court that the computer was at fault instead of the employee. He proved that the company was negligent in the operation and maintenance of the computer systems, resulting in a not guilty verdict for the defendant.

Mr. Wold provided electronic discovery support to multiple firms in a white collar case where a major Twin Cities business man faced multiple charges including Bankruptcy Fraud and Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud. Mr. Wold was involved in imaging multiple computers and file servers, identifying pertinent emails and documents, and providing them to the legal team.

Mr. Wold provided electronic evidence analysis and eDiscovery assistance in an Environmental Protection Agency case. Mr. Wold assisted the defense team consisting of multiple law firms in the analysis and extraction of vital documents and emails in the case.

Mr. Wold has conducted numerous forensic examinations of mobile devices such as Android phones, tablets, and iPhones in various cases including alleged murder, criminal sexual misconduct, and stalking. He has expertise with several of the popular tools in use, including Cellebrite, Internet Evidence Finder, Lantern, BlackLight, Device Seizure, Secure View, and others, as well as being trained in many of the manual methods in use.

Mr. Wold assisted the lead attorney representing a minor allegedly involved in a school shooting in northern Minnesota that resulted in several deaths. Since the youths conducted nearly all of their communications via computer, Mr. Wold provided valuable assistance with gathering and interpreting extensive evidence.

Mr. Wold provided electronic evidence analysis and eDiscovery assistance in a Federal tax fraud case. Federal authorities provided fifteen hard disk drives to the defense team as part of the discovery, and Mr. Wold identified and extracted pertinent document.

Mr. Wold provided services to recover a video surveillance system that was declared by law enforcement to not contain any valid information. The system was found to be inoperable, and Mr. Wold worked with the manufacturer to recover surveillance video that convinced the prosecutor to drop the charges against the accused.

Mr. Wold has worked with many types of clients, and is often referred by the Federal Defender's office to assist in child pornography investigations.
